CHINA WARNING FOR USA

Frankie Dettori has warned America not to underestimate Godolphin's China Visit in tomorrow's Kentucky Derby.

His mount is an outsider in local lists for the first leg of the US triple crown, despite an emphatic win in the UAE Derby at Nad Al Sheba in March.

But Dettori, who arrived from Britain in time to see the colt stretch his legs on the track at Churchill Downs on Thursday, is full of hope for his first ride in the 'run for the roses'.

'The American bookmakers have him at 50-1 but we are not 50-1,' the jockey said.

'We are going to give it a big shot. I think they are underestimating the colt. If the horse runs well, I don't want anybody to be surprised.'

The Italian admitted that the twice-raced China Visit will be at a disadvantage against battle-hardened rivals tomorrow.

'It is very tough and the toughest part is that he has only raced twice, plus a couple of trials, but never on a scale of the Kentucky Derby.

'Most of the other horses have six, seven, eight starts and probably have more experience.'

Dettori revealed that he and Godolphin supremo Sheikh Mohammed have studied film of the last 10 Kentucky Derbys in an attempt to decide on riding tactics.

But he stressed that no firm plan has been drawn up.

'There is no written rule,' he said. 'They can come from 30 lengths off or be up there on the lead. You get your horse to where he is comfortable.'

China Visit will be joined by stable-companion Curule (Marlon St Julien) tomorrow in a field which has been reduced to 19 by the late scratching of Globalize due to a minor injury.
