CHANNON STICKS TO HIS GUNS

Mick Channon has confirmed he is to appeal against the fine he received under the new 'non-triers'' rule at Windsor on Monday.

The trainer was hit with a £1,500 penalty and jockey Michael Tebbutt suspended for 10 days after Spirit Of Light finished seventh in the Burford Handicap.

The stewards invoked Rule 157 (iv), which came into effect last Thursday, after finding that Tebbutt did not make sufficient effort on Spirit Of Light.

Channon said today: 'I am appealing and I've got nothing else to say really, I said it all to the stewards.'

The stewards also banned Spirit Of Light from running for 40 days from March 30.
