Champion jockeys past and present are set to compete at Ascot tomorrow to help launch the Betting Industry 2000 Appeal for Charity.
The 'Charity Dash', a relay race across the Ascot paddock, is part of a nationwide raffle campaign by the betting industry to try and raise £500,000 for the Racing Welfare Millennium Fund, the British Olympic Appeal and the NSPCC.
The race will take place at noon and will include the likes of Tony McCoy, Richard Dunwoody, Peter Scudamore and Gee Armytage, as well as former Olympic champion Sally Gunnell.
Raffle tickets cost £1 and are available from nearly all high street bookmakers, from the spread betting and telephone betting companies and on most racecourses.
The three prize winners will each win ownership of their own two-year-old racehorse for the Flat season when the draw is made at Cheltenham on March 16th.
David Hood, co-ordinator of the Betting Industry Appeal, said: "This is a fantastic campaign for some very good causes.
"We have set an ambitious target but I am confident that there will be terrific interest in the appeal."
