CAVALERO FIRST RESERVE FOR NATIONAL

Connections of Cavalero must wait until tomorrow morning before they find out whether the gelding will be in the line-up for the Martell Grand National at Aintree.

The 11-year-old, winner of the Christie's Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham last month, is first reserve for the race and will run if there is a defection from the contest before 9.30am on Friday.

Audrey Manners, wife of trainer John, said today: "We'll just wait and see what happens, we're quite relaxed about it.

"There's nothing we can do about it but the horse is ready and raring to go.

"He's in the Scottish and Irish Nationals but we'd like to run at Aintree.

"Cheltenham was the race we wanted all along so perhaps that's how it was meant to be."

Cavalero had been a 16-1 shot generally for the National before today's final declaration stage.
