CARBERRY INJURED AGAIN

Jockey Paul Carberry was operated on in hospital in Dublin last night for a fracture below the knee after a fall at Fairyhouse, on the day he came back from a lay-off.

Carberry, who was riding for the first time in five weeks because of ligament problems, suffered his latest injury on board the Noel Meade-trained Harbour Pilot in the EBF Maiden Hurdle.

Harbour Pilot fell on the flat on the run to the first hurdle and Carberry was trampled on by other horses.

He was taken to Blanchardstown hospital and later operated on for a fractured leg.

Carberry was a possible candidate to ride Florida Pearl in the James Nicholson Champion Chase at Down Royal a fortnight today.

Dr Walter Halley, chief medical officer of the Turf Club, said last night: 'I have been in touch with Carberry`s surgeon and I have no idea how long Carberry will be out of action.'
