Buggy off the mark with Element

Core Element defied a 608-day absence to land the six-furlong handicap at Dundalk, in the process giving Kildare trainer Shane Buggy his first success.

Shane Foley, landing his first winner of the season, attempted to make all on the filly but looked booked for second when Almadaa swooped alongside in the final furlong.

Core Element found plenty in the closing stages, however, getting up for a half-length success.

The winner had attracted support this morning at as big as 25/1 and was sent off an 8/1 shot on course.

"I had her ready to run last year but had no licence for the Flat. She's a filly that should have won more races during her career," revealed restricted handler Buggy.

"I was expecting a big run from her tonight but it was somebody else who backed her at 25/1 this morning!

"She has schooled over hurdles and could have a future there. I'm not going to abuse her this year though after it took her so long to get to the track and the plan is to stay on the Flat for now."
