He may not be the class of his illustrious namesake but Pat Flynn's Binocular ran out a game winner of the South Tipp Today/Nationalist Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.
There were plenty with chances going to the second last in the 80-109 event but it was Binocular who hit the front after the penultimate flight.
Tim Carroll kept his mount going well from the last as Spa Wells threw down a late challenge, prevailing by three-parts-of-a-length.
There was money around for the winner who was available at 12/1 in the morning.
"He doesn't really let himself down on really fast ground so every shower of rain helped," said Flynn.
"He likes tight tracks and we may run him over fences at some stage. He's a hardy devil."
