Meath trainer James Hartnett enjoyed his biggest win since taking out a licence early last year when Shimmering Moment recorded a surprise 16/1 victory under Chris Hayes in the featured Carlingford Stakes at Dundalk.
Indeed this was Duleek-based Hartnett's first runner in a pattern race, and the former Henry Cecil-trained filly showed plenty of guts under pressure when staying on strongly to beat Bob Le Beau by three lengths.
The runner-up was doing her best work at the finish with rider Shane Foley having lost his whip well over a furlong out.
“She only joined me four weeks ago, and the plan was to get some black type. Mark (Gittens, the owner) will decide whether she stays in training or goes to Lord Shanakill. Hopefully I'll have her next year,” said Hartnett.
