Gerard Butler today reported Princess Ellen and Compton Bolter in fine form following their excellent runs in the Classics over the weekend.
The pair finished second (at 66-1) and fifth (at 100-1) respectively in the Sagitta 1000 and 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
And Butler is hoping to build on those efforts as the season goes on.
"It was good but it could have been better!" the trainer said. "There are no complaints from our end at all, we were delighted with the way everything went.
"Princess Ellen is down three or four kilos which is not bad after a very hot day.
"Compton Bolter is in unbelievable shape, he only ran for two furlongs otherwise he was sitting with his foot on the clutch.
"He came out of the race bouncing, he's really, really well."
Butler will give Compton Bolter a short rest before Royal Ascot, while Princess Ellen will attempt to go one better in the Entenmann's Irish 1000 Guineas on May 28.
"Compton Bolter has been to Dubai in February, he's been back to Dubai in March and he's been in the Guineas now so he'll go for the St James's Palace with nothing in between," Butler explained.
"He started his season early so we don't want to go to the well too often.
"He takes his races very well so he hopefully should get well primed up for Royal Ascot.
"Ireland is the plan at the moment for Princess Ellen."
The duo's performances are a boost for Butler whose stable star, last year's Coral-Eclipse Stakes winner Compton Admiral, is sidelined through injury.
"If there's any sort of consolation for not having "Admiral" going then this is it," Butler said.
"But we have for a few other horses to come out as well, Saddler's Quest, Whitefoot, Blusienka and Compton Ace."
Compton Ace, who missed the remainder of the last season after winning the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, has the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot as his main target
Butler added: "We haven't got a plan for Compton Ace yet but we've got to get something in the next few weeks as time is getting short.
"We're looking at Royal Ascot. We've entered him for the Gold Cup and there's the Hardwicke.
"He's really bred for the Gold Cup, that's always been the plan for him."
