Officials at Doncaster have expressed their delight at the 132-strong entry revealed today for the Worthington Lincoln on Saturday March 25th.
The figure for the #50,000-added handicap compares to 78 in 1999 and is the largest in recent years.
John Sanderson, chief executive and clerk of the course at Doncaster, said: "I am delighted to see so many entries for this year's Worthington Lincoln and it shows that the first major handicap of the turf Flat season, always oversubscribed which is the reason we have a consolation race the day before, is more popular than ever."
Right Wing, winner of the race last year and third to Hunters Of Brora in 1998, has been entered again by trainer John Dunlop.
She's Our Mare, winner of the Tote Cambridgeshire at Newmarket in October and third to Mantles Prince in the Ladbroke Hurdle at Leopardstown last Saturday for trainer Tony Martin, is another possible.
She could be reopposed by the Toby Balding-trained Bomb Alaska, a neck second to She's Our Mare in the Cambridgeshire and winner of the Worthington Spring Mile, the consolation race for horses balloted out of the Lincoln, last season.
Ladbroke Autumn Handicap winner Tayseer is part of a five-strong entry from trainer David Nicholls along with Rock Falcon, Referendum, Peartree House and Wuxi House.
First-season trainer Jamie Osborne could be represented by former John Gosden inmate Tactful Remark and Green Pursuit.
And there are four Irish-based possibles in addition to She's Our Mare, the Dermot Weld-trained duo Gold Chaser and Tarry Flynn, Pat Flynn's King Of The Wire and Balla Sola from Willie Mullins' yard.
The weights for the one-mile contest are released on January 19th.
