BUMPER EUROPEAN MELBOURNE ENTRY

Fantastic Light is among 45 European-based horses nominated for the Foster`s Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 7.

The four-year-old, second to Montjeu in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot last Saturday, is one of 13 nominations from Godolphin.

The Dubai operation`s team, seeking to go one better than Central Park`s second to Rogan Josh in the race last year, also includes last year`s Rothmans Royals St Leger winner Mutafaweq and 1998 Arc hero Sagamix.

Far Cry, Compton Ace and San Sebastian, second, third and fourth respectively behind Kayf Tara in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, are also among the possibles.

Luca Cumani has entered last year`s Tote Ebor winner Vicious Circle as well as the ante-post favourite for this season`s York feature Boreas.

And Persian Punch, third in the 1998 Melbourne Cup, could have another crack at the prize.

Fantastic Light, Mutafaweq, Sagamix and Vicious Circle are also among 29 European nominations to theCarlton Draught Caulfield Cup over 12 furlongs on October 21.

The race was won by the Lady Herries-trained Taufan`s Melody in 1998.

Fantastic Light is also among the 16 European nominations for the BMW Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 28.

The Grade One contest, part of the Emirates World Series, has also attracted the Michael Jarvis-trained Alrassaam and Sir Michael Stoute`s duo Beat All and Greek Dance.

Greg Nichols of Racing Victoria, said: 'It`s an entry of tremendous quality and depth and numbers are far up on last year, which was a record itself.

'We have built up a good rapport with European stables and racing fans.'
