Tramore racecourse in Ireland reported one of the most successful days in its history following Saturday's New Year's Day fixture.
With no racing anywhere else in Britain and Ireland, Tramore made the most of its monopoly and course director Karl Casey reported: 'We had around 11,000 people through the turnstiles.
'The most we normally get is about 8,000 at our August meeting.
'It has been a great success - everybody is having a ball.
'We have had a record Tote turnover of over IR£125,000 (IR£127,011 compared with IR£50,239 at last year's meeting).
'We had to fight to put this fixture on but we put forward a strong case and we've finished up having one of the most successful days in the south-east of Ireland.'
First winner of 2000 was Shay Barry's mount No Problem, who justified 5-1 favouritism in the opening Mean Fiddler Handicap Chase.
