BRITISH HOPES WARM UP FOR SINGAPORE CHALLENGE

Monsajem and Showboat, the two British challengers for the Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji on Saturday, limbered up for the big race at the track today.

Ed Dunlop's Monsajem, partnered by John Reid, worked in tandem with his stablemate the Gary Carter-ridden Night Style on the fibresand.

Night Style, winner of the Group One Gran Criterium in Milan last season, is due to contest the Singapore Plate.

Dunlop said: "I'm happy with the way they have travelled and the facilities here are brilliant. So far everything has gone smoothly and, all in all, I'm extremely pleased with their preparation."

Reid, making his first visit to Singapore, said: "It's an absolutely fantastic track. Everything's been done to a very high standard and I have to say I am really impressed. Monsajem seems in very good form."

And Carter said of Night Style: "He went really well and seems to be in the same kind of form as he was before his big win in Italy."

Barry Hills' Showboat breezed on the turf under big-race partner Michael Hills.

"It's beautiful track and rides really well, just like Sha Tin," said the jockey.

The other two European runners in the race are the French pair, Jim And Tonic, already the winner of three major Hong Kong prizes, and Barbola.

Barbola had a fast canter on the fibresand after which his trainer, Jean de Roualle, said: "Over the last couple of days the horse has really come to himself. He's regained the weight he lost travelling here and I'm starting to feel a little optimistic."

Frankie Dettori rides Godolphin's challenger Sea Wave, who has impressed work watchers. Trainer Saeed bin Suroor is due to arrive tomorrow.

David Harrison and Kieren Fallon are due to ride the Hong Kong pair, Holy Grail and Oriental Express.
