Brilliant Red, who beat Running Stag on his last start in November, returns to action at Lingfield on Saturday.
Trainer Lydia Richards has booked Pat Eddery for the ride in the Bet Direct on 0800 211 222 Winter Derby Trial Conditions stakes.
Mrs Richards said: "He's had a holiday and he will have a prep run on Saturday to try and get him right for the Winter Derby itself on March 18th. He's very well in himself although the race will bring him on."
Brilliant Red's surprise victory over Running Stag in a conditions race at the Surrey track in November effectively ended his days as a handicapper and Richards added: "He will probably go for a few Listed races early season. He doesn't travel well so we can't take him abroad."
