Lord Flasheart paid a handsome compliment to his Prix Noailles conqueror Kutub by going one better in the Group Two Prix Hocquart at Chantilly today.
Alain de Royer Dupre's charge, a 5-2 shot on the Pari-Mutuel, became involved in a fierce struggle with Crimson Quest and simply refused to lie down in the trial for the Emirates Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) next month.
Gerald Mosse's mount hugged the rail and forced his head in front at the line, nosing out the previously unbeaten Crimson Quest.
The pair were three lengths clear of Hesiode.
Dominique Boeuf, rider of the fourth-placed Bleu D'Altair, objected to the first two on the grounds of interference, but was overruled by the stewards.
Mosse said: "I must applaud Lord Flasheart's courage. I thought we were going to get beaten but he simply refused to concede defeat."
Connections confirmed that the winner will bid for the Prix du Jockey-Club.
