BOBBYJO WELL BEATEN

Bobbyjo, winner of the 1999 Martell Grand National, failed to sparkle on his reappearance at Galway today.

Tommy Carberry`s 10-year-old was ridden by the trainer`s son Philip, who was deputising for elder brother Paul who fractured his left leg in a fall at Fairyhouse on Friday.

The gelding, who has not won since his famous victory at Aintree, lined up for the Irish Independent Handicap Chase over two miles and six furlongs and was always struggling on the heavy ground under top weight of 12st.

Bobbyjo, who was sent off a 20-1 chance, lost touch from four out after jumping soundly and came home last of the seven finishers, behind the 6-1 winner Fiddlers Tune.
