Sagitta 2000 Guineas winner King's Best has been given the go-ahead for next month's Vodafone Derby, it was announced today.
A decision on King's Best's participation at Epsom has been in the balance since his Newmarket Classic success 10 days ago and the colt is as short as 3-1 for the race with Ladbrokes.
Joe Mercer, racing manager for owner Saeed Suhail, said: "The horse will be trained for the Derby.
"Kingmambo has produced two good one-and-a-half-miles horses before so the owner decided he wanted to have a go."
Mercer brushed aside worries that the colt could boil over in the Epsom preliminaries.
"When he ran in the Dewhurst it was the end of a long season and you can forgive a horse for one bad run.
"When he ran in the Guineas he settled down well and went to the post quite nicely. He's a flowing horse so firm ground at Epsom should suit him."
