Imperial Beauty will not run in the King George Stakes at Goodwood tomorrow having sustained an injury this morning.
Peter Makin's filly slipped on the road when returning from a routine work-out on the gallops.
Makin said today: 'She just slipped up on the way back from the gallops and she's got a large haematoma on her quarters. She's not lame but she wouldn't be able to run.'
Makin expects Imperial Beauty to be fit in time to contest the Nunthorpe Stakes at York in mid August.
He said: 'I think the next race we would able to look for is the Nunthorpe. It all depends how quickly it stops haemorrhaging and we'll know in the next few days how long it's going to take.'
Imperial Beauty had finished second to Rudi's Pet in the King George Stakes 12 months ago, having appeared unlucky in running, and Makin had high hopes that she was going to go one better.
He said: 'This race was perfect before the Nunthorpe and she had an outstanding chance.
'We're a bit shattered. She'd gone three years without a blemish and then the day before a race like this she goes and does that. That's horses, as they keep saying.'
