BARTON WELL ON ROAD TO RECOVERY

Owner Stan Clarke reports Barton to be in good form as he continues his recovery from injury.

The gelding, impressive winner of the Royal & SunAlliance Hurdle at Cheltenham in 1998, missed all last season with a tendon injury.

Clarke expects him to return to trainer Tim Easterby`s Malton stable at the end of the month.

'He`s very well,' Clarke said. 'He`s not up at Tim`s yet, he`s on the roads in Warwickshire.

'I`m sending another one up there called Barton Saint, a nice five-year-old South African horse.

'They`ll be going up to Tim I should think at the end of this month.'

Clarke did not wish to comment on the transfer of 1997 Grand National winner Lord Gyllene from Steve Brookshaw to Martin Pipe`s stable.

But the owner is looking forward to the winter as his jump string begin moving to their respective stables.

'Toto Toscato has gone down to Alan King`s - he`s in great nick,' Clarke added.

'I understand Star To The North is in work now at Ferdy Murphy`s.

'And I`ve sent a very nice horse, that won its point-to-point, called Barton Nick up to Andy Streeter so we`re going to be sending quite a few horses out.'
