Taps were being turned on again at Ascot today as soaring temperatures threaten to produce lightning-fast conditions for the start of the four-day Royal meeting.
Godolphin have already warned that some of their leading players are possible absentees in the event of jarring ground.
But bosses at the Queen's racecourse were planning to water the track again this evening as a precaution.
Nick Cheyne, the clerk of the course, said: 'It will be fast ground but what we are doing is watering to ensure that it will not be jarring.
'If necessary we will water again tomorrow, though in the back of our minds we are aware of the possibility of rain.
'There is the chance of some showers and storms overnight on Monday into Tuesday. Then the forecast is mixed for Tuesday and Wednesday.
'But as we all know the weather can change quickly in this country so we have to be careful.'
Godolphin founder Sheikh Mohammed will be accompanied by jockeys Jerry Bailey and John Velasquez when he checks the state of the track tomorrow afternoon.
Bailey and Velasquez are set to partner Bachir and China Visit respectively in Tuesday's St James's Palace Stakes.
Godolphin have already admitted to concern about the ground for China Visit, Dubai Millennium and Thursday's Gold Cup contender Kayf Tara.
Dubai Millennium, the brilliant Dubai World Cup winner, will not be risked in Wednesday's Prince of Wales's Stakes if the Sheikh deems that the ground is too fast.
Godolphin have confirmed Teggiano to be a definite runner in the Coronation Stakes on Friday.
The filly is seeking the 'Millennium million miler bonus' on offer from the Ascot executive.
Bosses will pay out £1million if any horse wins the Fillies' Mile or Royal Lodge Stakes, the Coronation Stakes or St James's Palace, and then the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
