AINTREE A POSSIBILITY FOR TOP NOVICE

Leading novice Monsignor could run in the Grade One Martell Aintree Hurdle on Grand National day.

Mark Pitman will enter the impressive Cheltenham Festival winner in the £100,000 contest, but stressed that he would talk to owner Malcolm Denmark before confirming an attempt.

Pitman said: "It's still very much conjecture. The ground is very important. You would not want it firm. He has put on weight since Cheltenham and he is very well. I am going to work him tomorrow and will talk to the owner."

Pitman added that Ashley Park, fourth in the Smurfit Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham on only his second start over timber, would also be entered in the Aintree race.

The trainer continued: "Plans are very fluid, but both horses are in good shape and I am very happy with them."

He plans a mass entry in the Martell Champion Standard National Hunt Flat Race at the meeting with Jameson, a winner at Sandown on his debut, the Newbury scorers Cruise The Fairway and Patriarch, and Genuine Article, a Warwick winner, all possible contenders.

"What we run depends on the ground," said Pitman, who added that Connor Macleod would run in the Mumm Mildmay Novices' Chase.
