AHERN COMPLETES ANOTHER RAID

Eddie Ahern once again starred at Taby when riding True Lover to win the £44,000 Swedish St Leger this afternoon.

Irish rider Ahern, who grabbed the Stockholm Cup aboard Valley Chapel for Wido Neuroth last month, again teamed up with the Norwegian trainer aboard True Lover.

Always close up, Ahern gave the 15-8 favourite a confident ride and stretched clear to beat The Groom by two lengths, saluting the crowd as he passed the post.

Ahern said: 'It`s easy when you are riding good horses like this one. The strong gallop suited him and though he got a little bit tired towards the end, he had the race won by then.'

The jockey had earlier teed up a 3-1 double when winning the Lanwades Stud Stakes on the odds-on Shaisa, also trained by Neuroth.

The form of Mozart`s win in last month`s Tattersalls Houghton Stakes received an unusual boost as King Quantas landed the Winter Favourites Prize. The locally-trained two-year-old had finished second to Newmarket runner-up Pretty Girl at Taby last month.

John McLaughlin was on the mark as Rambo Flyer maintained his status as Scandinavia`s top hurdler with an easy win in the Ormus Hurdle, while John Twomey gave 19-1 outsider Mistys Mara a determined ride to win the St Eriks Chase. PA
