Owner John Glews, trainer Enda Bolger and jockey Adrian Heskin are having an afternoon to remember at Downpatrick and the trio brought up a 29/1 double with Federici s win in the featured Toals Bookmakers Ulster National European Breeders Fund Handicap Chase.
The same connections had been on the mark in the opener with Lofgren and the centrepiece three and a half miler saw their Overbury gelding Federici go into battle as a 7/1 shot. The Mooch gave it a good go from the front but Federici was too strong on the run-in and five and a half lengths split them at the line. Favourite Futuramic was half a length back in third.
Afterwards Heskin said: "It's a great day for Enda, and the owner, John Glews, and I'm delighted to have a double for them. He travelled beautifully and we had a plan and it couldn't have worked out better. I had plenty of horse and he scooted away.
"He was the only horse contesting against real hot opposition and I thought his form was fairly solid. He travelled great and was always there where I wanted.
"He had real good form with winter horses. He has a nice future over fences."
Meanwhile John Glews' friend Sean Byrne was on hand to comment: "Enda said he was very well and that he thought he would stay. He said he needed better ground. He got a lovely ride.
"I actually bought him as a foal for sixteen hundred for John."
Glews is from Shropshire, England whilst Byrne farms in Dunboyne.
