The Punchestown stewards hit jockey J.J. Slevin with a 21 days ban following The La Touche Cup which was run over the banks course today.
Slevin finished in third place in the 4m1f contest aboard First Lieutenant but was adjudged to have been in breach of regulation 10.3 (f) by using his whip with excessive force and also regulation 10.2 by using a worn whip.
In determining the length of the ban the stewards took into account the rider's record in this regard (fifth whip ban this year).
The stewards also looked to interview Barry Cash for his use of the whip in the same race aboard the winner Treo Eile but he had left the course so they were unable to conduct the inquiry. The matter has been referred to the Referrals Committee in accordance with Rule 14 (ii) (b).
