18 STAND GROUND FOR FRENCH 2000 GUINEAS

A total of 18 acceptors stood their ground at today's second acceptance stage for Sunday's Dubai Poule d'Essai des Poulains, the French 2000 Guineas, at Longchamp.

Aidan O'Brien is keeping his options open by leaving in Monasahee Mountain, Manhattan, Royal Kingdom, Bashkir and Giant's Causeway.

Other overseas acceptors include Fanaar (Jeremy Noseda), Ekraar (Marcus Tregoning) and Valentino (John Gosden), plus the Godolphin pair, Bachir and Glad Master.

Blu Air Force, the crack Italian colt purchased recently by Daniel Wildenstein, is the 11th foreign acceptor.

The latest group of defectors were Jammaal (Dermot Weld), Adilabad (Sir Michael Stoute) and Cape Town (Richard Hannon).

The going at the course is presently described as soft.

Aidan O'Brien later confirmed that Monasahee Mountain was his most likely contender for the Poule d'Essai des Poulains.

The master of Ballydoyle said: "He's ready for a run at this level - he's won his two races this season well and he's come on for them.

"He has a good turn of foot which ought to come in useful if there isn't much early pace."

Warrior Queen is a "possible" for the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches but a firm decision has yet to be taken.

The French 1000 Guineas, the Dubai Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, has 19 acceptors.

Foreign contenders at today's second acceptance stage included Iftiraas (John Dunlop), Crimplene (Clive Brittain), Out Of Reach (Barry Hills) and Kalypso Katie (Jeremy Noseda).

Godolphin have kept open the dual option of being able to run the Fillies' Mile winner Teggiano and Dignify.

Aidan O'Brien has pursued a similar policy by leaving in Alluring and Warrior Queen.

Xua, the Italian 1,000 Guineas winner, is the ninth foreign acceptor.

The three British overnight defectors were Alhufoof (Marcus Tregoning), Premier Prize (David Elsworth) and Blusienka (Gerard Butler).

Lady of Chad, the unbeaten Prix Marcel Boussac winner, spearheads the home defence.

The foreign-trained sextet in the Group One Prix Lupin on the same card include no less than four O'Brien representatives, Ciro, Royal Kingdom, Bashkir and Bach.

Godolphin have left in two, Dubai Two Thousand and River's Curtain, in the race which is a leading trial for the Prix du Jockey-Club, the French Derby.
