Aforementioned gained a first chase win at Clonmel today as the Gordon Elliott trained, Gigginstown House Stud owned gelding landed the featured Irish Stallion Farms EBF Captain Christy Chase under jockey Jack Kennedy.
Aforementioned was one of 22 horses listed for sale, without reserve, in last month's Goffs UK September Sale as part of the 'Giggsxit' withdrawal agreement from Irish racing. However he was spared that cut and today, 16 days later, gained a timely first fences win in the €18,500 feature.
In the race Aforementioned battled gamely when asked for effort by Kennedy in the home straight and eventually over-powered runner-up Whatyourstatus on the run-in, for a three and a quarter lengths success.
Elliott, completing a double, wasn't present and afterwards Kennedy stated “staying is his game and I struggled to pull him up after the line and he could have gone around again.
“He jumped brilliantly, put himself right at the second last and was good and quick over it and winged the last and that sealed it. He won well.
“He mightn't want extremes but a bit of soft ground mightn't be too bad for him.”
Regarding his withdrawal from the recent sale, he added “I'm glad they didn't send him to the sales and while he'll have to build on that, hopefully he can.”
