Fairyhouse 14 12 24 Majborough and Mark Walsh win for trainer Willie Mullins Healy Racing © Photo Healy Racing
Majborough produced the standout performance of the weekend at Fairyhouse where spirits were high as the young chaser sparkled in a beginners chase to win by 6.5 lengths. His price has halved for the Arkle in March with BoyleSports.
We take a look at the other market movers from the past few days.
Majborough 4-1 from 10-1 with BoyleSports after winning a Beginners Chase at Fairyhouse
Jockey quote: He had to do it the hard way in front but ,when Paul’s horse (Townend on Tullyhill) came to him, we were fairly motoring over the last two and he was good and slick at them. With the size of him, fences were always going to be the making of him and it was a great introduction for him. He lobbed away in front, he wasn’t keen with me. He has gears and he’ll stay, so he’s one to look forward to. Willie’s other two horses in the race were no slouches, so it was a good test for him. (Mark Walsh)
Lecky Watson 20-1 (1st show) with BoyleSports after winning a Beginners Chase at Naas
Trainer quote: Fences are bringing out improvement in him and I'm very happy with that. His attitude to jumping was tremendous as well. Paul was very happy with it and I was very happy watching. He seemed to be able to put in quick ones and take a flyer when he wanted. Generally, for a horse first time over fences it was a very good first start. Paul was giving me the impression that he wouldn't be afraid to go further.
He said before the race that he thought this was his trip - I thought he might want a bit further, but he thought this was the right place to start him. Maybe we'll stay around this trip. (Willie Mullins)
Jango Baie 12-1 from 25-1 with BoyleSports after winning a Novices‘ Chase at Cheltenham
Trainer quote: Nico asked him some proper questions for a baby and he got some proper answers as well. For not the biggest horse in the world, he’s got a lot of scope. He certainly wasn’t stopping at the end there over two-and-a-half (miles), he galloped right out. He looks a stayer. I always think it’s a big test for a novice to come here first time over fences and I don’t like doing it. (Nicky Henderson)
Kalypso'chance made 5-1f with BoyleSports after winning a bumper at Navan
Trainer quote: Patrick said he's a fair horse and we'll probably end up going to Leopardstown all being well. He quickened really well, it was a nice race & I was happy with him. I'd say he's a smart horse. (Gordon Elliott).
Future Prospect 14/1 with BoyleSports after winning a bumper at Fairyhouse
Jockey quote: She was lugging left a bit all the way. I wanted to go down the inside, but I tried not to fight with her and we ended up in the middle of the track which was fine. She settled in front even though we were going a good gallop, and I was pleasantly surprised how well she picked up. I’d imagine we’ll look to the DRF with her for the mares’ bumper. She might be a slightly easier ride going the other direction. I think she’s the first Order Of St George (sire) that we’ve had and I wouldn’t mind a few more of them if they were like that. (Patrick Mullins)
Stumptown 7/2f from 6/1 with BoyleSports for the Cross Country after winning a cross country race at Cheltenham
Trainer quote: Stumptown absolutely loves it and it’s obviously a huge asset to have Keith on board because he’s very good at these cross-country races and gets a good tune out of the horses. There was a little concern as Stumptown has been around Punchestown a few times now and is very good at the banks and it is a different discipline here with the hedges. We were hoping that he would take to it and he’s taken to it well. We said we’d try it at the Punchestown Festival as we thought the handicapper had hit his max and it seems to have brought around a new lease of life for him. It’s unbelievable — he’s grown legs for it. Returning to Cheltenham for the Festival is an obvious target and Cromwell will also now consider a crack at the Grand National. That (Grand National) would definitely be on the agenda. We thought we’d try the cross-country route with Vanillier too as he’s getting a little bit older and he seemed to enjoy it, so he could come back here for the cross-country at the Festival as well. (Gavin Cromwell)
Country Mile 25-1 (1st show) with BoyleSports after winning a Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham
Trainer quote: It was a surprise to see him win like that really. They obviously went quite hard and he’s loads of ability, hasn’t he? He jumped a lot better today. He didn’t jump all that well at Haydock and I think the ground really got to the bottom of him that day as well. (Dan Skelton)
Shuffle The Deck 25/1 from 40/1 with BoyleSports after winning a Maiden Hurdle at Naas
Trainer quote: He did it nicely. He stays and jumps. He looks like a horse that will make a nice chaser. His first run was a goodish run and he came on from it, it looks like he's improved a bit from that. He is what he is, he stays going and he gallops. He's only a four-year-old and with his pedigree he should make a nice chaser. His half-brother Verdant Place won yesterday. Hopefully, he goes on to be a nice horse, lots of horses win a maiden hurdle. I've had a few nice novices over the years and I'd say he's as good as we've had at this stage, but he has a long way to go. Somebody asked me there how good he was and I said 'well he's not Rince Ri'. He's entered in the Lawlor's (at Naas) and he'll probably run there unless they (JP McManus) have something better. (Ted Walsh)
