An enquiry was held to consider the deployment of the yellow stop race' flag following an injury sustained by NOT NORMAL (IRE) after jumping the first hurdle. They interviewed riders Kielan Woods, Daryl Jacob, Tom Scudamore, Richard Johnson, Richard Patrick and William Kennedy, the Clerk of the Course representing the Racecourse Executive, the Head Groundsman and the Judge. The Head Groundsman explained that screens had been erected around NOT NORMAL (IRE) after the gelding had sustained an injury and the positioning represented an unacceptable level of risk to continue racing past the stricken horse due to the lack of a safe racing line between the third last and second last hurdles on the final circuit. He therefore deployed the yellow stop race' flag. The explanation given by Woods, Scudamore and Kennedy that they had jumped the third last hurdle before immediately pulling up as there had been no whistle blown to alert the riders of a hazard ahead and they had committed their mounts to jumping the hurdle before becoming aware of the yellow flag was accepted. In light of the yellow stop race' flag being deployed, the Stewards declared the race void and ordered a report to be forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
