Robbie Colgan executed a masterful front-running ride on Upgraded (9/1) to win the concluding race on Plate day at Galway, the Play The Tote Superfecta Handicap over two miles.
He sent Tony Martin’s mare straight to the front, and was able to dictate the pace he wanted before kicking on approaching the home turn.
The winner had enough in reserve to hold the running-on market leader Eight And Bob (5/4 fav) by two and three-quarter lengths, with Conron (7/2) one-paced in third another half length away.
The winner, a five-year-old daughter of Acclamation, was gaining a second career success having won a Gowran Park maiden for John Oxx at three.
The winning trainer Tony Martin observed afterwards: “She’s been threatening all the time and ran very well in Ballinrobe.
"It was great to see the form with Tom Mullins filly (Bercasa, third) winning earlier, and that gave us a bit of confidence.
“That man (John Breslin) wants to have a winner here so it’s great.
“She’s always been staying on so we said to Robbie if there is no pace then use your own discretion and he did an excellent job.
“She’s in again on Sunday so we’ll see how she bounces out.”
