After a win for Conor McGovern in the previous race on The Phantom Punch his boss Anthony McCann landed the first split of the Horseware Ireland Handicap with Three Majors
Kevin Manning donned the Rita Shah colours on this 12/1 shot, and he soon had the five-year-old up there from his wide draw in thirteen.
That was a fair achievement over this seven furlong trip, and in the end Three Majors got the better of the well-fancied pair, Delegating (5/1 into 9/2) and Pari Passu (7/2 into 11/4 favourite) by a neck and two and a half lengths.
"Kevin rode him last week and said if he rode him again that he'd bounce him out and try to make it. He's a monkey of a horse that has serious ability but we could never get it out. That's why we tried the eye-shield on him," said McCann.
"He's the ability to win a race like that any day of the week and it clicked tonight. It's great for Rita (Shah, owner) and all the team that he's done it."
The Stewards fined Peter Fahey, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Chunkyfunkymonkey (GB), in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91.
The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
N.M. Crosse, rider of Peace Mission trained by Thomas Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran too free onto heels in the back straight, his mount stumbled, the saddle slipped and he lost his irons.
