Murtagh off mark on Clearwater
Clearwater Bay stuck on gamely to make it two wins from three in the Labrokes Conditions Race at Listowel.
Johnny Murtagh was at work on the Ballydoyle runner over three furlongs from home but he got to the front before the furlong marker. Icon Dream emerged to throw down a challenge but couldn't find a way past the winner, going down by half a length.
"It's about time. It's been a long week." said Murtagh on recording his first winner at the festival.
"This horse is still immature. It's his third run and you would probably expect him to have learnt more by now.
"Perhaps a big galloping track would suit him better. He's a little bit vunerable on these tight tracks.
"We had a great battle with the runner-up down the straight but my fellow was always holding the other horse. It was a good performance."
