Ghost looks to have a future

Thu 3rd Nov 2011, 16:46

Corbally Ghost took the concluding bumper at Thurles in good style, powering home in the closing stages to record a convincing success.

Nina Carberry tracked the leaders on the Central Park gelding before launcing her challenge wide entering the straight.

Noel Meade 's charge soon collared the front-running Ancient Days and despite running a bit green soon was in command.

He straightened up well inside the final furlong to stretch clear for a four-and-a-half length sucess over The Mighty Milan

The runner-up was one of two significant gambles in the race, backed from 20/1 in the morning into 6/1

Another newcomer Tornado Brian was also backed from 14/1 into 4/1 in the morning and eventually sent off a 13/2 shot. He could only finish sixth

Favourite Morning Royalty (third) drifted in the face of the support for the others and went off 7/4, having been 8/11 first thing.

"He's a brilliant jumper," said Meade of the winner, a point-to-point recruit.

"He ran terrible in a point-to-point bumper but he may have been a bit weak. He's a beautiful moving horse and is a lovely big model.

"He's by a sire you might be hearing more of. I'd say he's decent enough."
