The opening race this afternoon at Navan The Navan Maiden Hurdle was won by the Dessie Hughes trained Valhalla Vision with Roger Loughran riding for owner Gerry Burke.

Meadow Vale was around a 1/2 shot for the Blackstairs Maiden Hurdle this morning, but he could be backed at evens on track (returned 4/5) as money came for Posthouse Lady (16s in the morning into 7/1) and Valhalla Vision (7s into 4s). As it turned out Meadow Vale (rated 119) was able to fend off the two gambles, beating the pair by one and a quarter lengths and a short head.

Her only previous good run was when she finished 2nd at Punchestown on her debut. We have basically been waiting 12 months for good ground. The ground did make a difference but we always thought she was a good mare. She is a three parts sister to Grangelcare Lark who won seven races including two Listed events.
