He was second in the race last year, but he's a little older. Two miles on this ground will probably mean you won't see him at his very best, but he always runs a very good race so you couldn't discount him. Douvan has schooled brilliantly since Cheltenham and with what I felt from him at Cheltenham I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't come back to his very best. I certainly haven't lost any faith in him and he's shown no ill effects from his fall. Hopefully he can leave a marker for next season. Min ran fantastically well at Cheltenham and again at Aintree where he probably ran a bit keen to get home over two and a half miles. He's come out of that fine and provides some very good back-up.

Paul said he wasn’t beaten when the other horse fell. He was just letting him coast and waiting for the challenge. He had his ground today and will probably go on to Punchestown now. He’s made of iron this fellow. He pulls out every day and the way he races and trains every day at home. He’s as hard as nails.

That was the first time I rode something like him and for a horse that goes so hard, he is so clever and sharp. You're just a pure passenger on him and he does everything himself. A horse jumped into me at the first but it was straightforward enough after that. He is so sure of himself and it is a pleasure to ride him. He ploughed away through the conditions and jumped really well - long or short he was well able. I rode him for the first time on Tuesday; I've got to look at him in the past but never thought I'd get to ride him. I remember his first maiden hurdle - I was walking the track to ride in the bumper and saw him and said 'wow, what's that!'. I'm very thankful to Willie and the owners for getting the ride.

We've only got three horses with Willie. He's the horse of a lifetime, defeat last year in the Queen Mother to Sprinter Sacre hurt, but we're back with a bang now. Ruby is a genius because he lets him do his own thing, he doesn't panic. Our job is to pay the bills, they told us he'd stay and that was it. It all makes sense now. He was very keen, I was a little worried with his huge jump at the first but he got him settled. When he saw a line of fences he just went for them, but he sort of settled in front. For him, that's settled. He's an absolute iron horse, he's like that on the gallops every day, he wears his heart on his sleeve and I wonder how he can do it without wearing himself out. He's so hard on himself, so I'm trying to train him not to do that, this fellow has the button pressed the whole way, I don't know how he keeps the energy and keeps wanting to do it. Every time he needed a good jump he got one and I thought it would take something out of the others to catch him. He saved his best jump until last.

That ground is plenty fast enough and I'm not sure I'd want to run on ground that fast again. I was a bit concerned how he was jumping a few fences away from the stands. He was going out to the left a bit and climbing one or two. We'll put him away now and go down the Champion Chase route next year. When the other horse came to him at the last Ruby had to shake him up but when he did shake him up he was fine. He wasn't too keen on the ground. I thought he made one or two errors and wasn't jumping half as well as he did at Cheltenham. I think he was just feeling the ground. All horses have their pressures but he's a tough horse to watch with his style of racing. I'm happy to get out to grass with him, and we'll try and work back from the spring next season. He had the potential after his hurdling experience and answered the calling everyday except for Thurles. It's never good to see them fall and although that probably taught him a little manners you'd hope he could learn that without falling.

He did what he had to do. His jumping wasn't quite as fluent but he was going a steadier pace and it's nice to see that he's relaxing better in his races now. We'll see how he comes out of the race and we'll see what happens between now and then (Cheltenham),.

.Foildubh tried to go with him and he just completely choked. He killed him trying to go the pace,. I thought our fella was more settled today than he's ever been. He didn't jump as well as he can but that was probably because he was going that bit slower.

he has been doing that sort of work at home and is one I've been looking forward to getting out. He jumped well for a horse first time over hurdles, carrying a penalty but he's very hard on himself and we'll see how he comes out of this before deciding where to go. He is certainly a nice addition to the team and they went some 'clip' - the time was huge for the ground (4m09.9sec).
