3:40pm There's the the usual eccentricity to this event with the 2009 and 2010 winners renewing rivalries. Shin A Vee won in 2009 but was narrowly beaten by COOL WARRIOR the following year and, while Derek O'Connor is a notable booking, Shin A Vee has been absent for 772 days and is now passed over. Preference is for 12 year old COOL WARRIOR, who at least has proven fitness on his side. The other 14 runners have mustered just 10 point to points wins between them and finding a form alternative to either of the two previous winners is difficult. Ten year old Norwich Flyer has three point to point wins to his name though and may play a prominent roll while Enniskillen, who worringly is still a maiden point to pointer, ran ok in the Ladies Cup on Tuesday and has minor claims. The Begrudger is a dual point to point winner a long time ago but hasn't shown anything worth mentioning recently. (TW)

He showed the trait of his brother there . Sir Des Champs. The beautiful thing about today was the way he jumped his hurdles leading towards chasing. A couple of strides after the last I thought I was beaten. The minute the other horse gave him half a chance my fella dug in and we had enough time then from there to the line . in the last 150 or 200 yards I was pretty sure I was going to get by him. He was good. He's a three-parts brother to Sir Des Champs and toughness is their middle name. I was surprised when the others wouldn't make the running . I thought we'd drop in last but he's done some of his best work at home from the front so I wasn't too worried. He missed a couple of days with a stone bruise and I was a bit worried that might impact on him in this ground. He hasn't the best feet and we have to constantly mind them. I love the way he came back when he was passed . I thought the game was up at the last. He got a second wind. My French connections always thought that he could be a better horse than Sir Des Champs. That's the potential we hope he might have. He's a good jumper and obviously he's going to be a staying novice chaser but we could even start him over two next autumn . we'll just take what we get. Davy was very very good on him. We hadn't discussed tactics so I left it to him to make his mind up.

We knew he would probably have to make the running but he was brave in front to go and make it first time over hurdles,. He jumped like a chaser early on but his jumping flattened out as he sped up. He's probably more of a stayer and he's a chaser for the future. We'll see how he comes out of this and we'll definately have a look at Christmas. He'll be entered in all the top novice races.

He looks like a racehorse. We will try and win another bumper with him now, maybe two, before we put him away and bring him back next season to go hurdling. He is a cool customer, very relaxed and that will help him in his racing career. He jumps well at home and we are looking forward to going jumping with him next season.
