You can't beat breeding; she is not exactly an oil painting, is a small, simple little mare with crooked front legs. If we put her in the sale as a three-year-old she'd make nothing but people forget it's what is in the heart and in the head that counts. It doesn't matter that she has windey action and isn't the biggest as she can still come up with the results. She is a serious mare on that ground and jumps like a buck on it and has a lot of reserves. She is improving and hopefully will keep improving.

She's an exceptional little mare, a great stayer,. I was a little afraid of the ground, it's lively enough out there and she needs it softer. She got away with it. We'll try and find another handicap for her and hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard on her as she's not really built to carry weight but her determination got her through today. If she turns out as good as her mother (Sweet Kiln) I won't complain. Brian (Hayes) rode a tremendous race on her and judged it to perfection. She likes sitting off the pace as she panics when there are horses behind her, so you just have to drop her out. It took us a while to find that out about her. Maybe in time she'll learn to settle in front but at the minute we have to drop her out in her races. It's about time I trained a winner, at one stage I thought I'd never train another winner!. I'm relieved as I thought there was some curse on me. Hopefully there are more to come. I'll have a glass of wine when I go home and celebrate in style.

we were close to giving up with her after her last run. It was only a last-thought to run her in this today as she was also entered in the bumper. it was a surprise and a bigger one than yesterday (with stablemate Jaime Sommers also winning at 25/1). We always liked her but she was fierce disappointing in all three of her bumpers but Brian (Hayes) said a combination of fitness, the hurdles and the extra half-mile made the difference as she wasn't a bumper mare. She is very well bred out of Sweet Kiln and Brian won on Sweet Kiln and this filly's sister Aunt Alice. Sweet Kiln's first three runners have all won and while she is retired, she has a Leading Light three year old and a Getaway yearling on the ground. Sweet Kiln herself won here in an amateur race under Brian and Sweet Sting is only four but should improve with age.
