We normally ride him from the front and, once he got there today, he just kept quickening from the last bend home. Wesley knows him well and he is a good solid horse, so hopefully it is onwards and upwards now. Myself and Wesley have been lucky at all the festivals this year but, unfortunately, I don't have the firepower to win him the apprentice jockeys' championship. I'm hoping other trainers can give him a chance, as he has had his problems, but is back riding as well as ever and deserves it. He works full-time with us and drives over an hour to be in the yard before 8am every morning. He is a good rider, that's what he is, but definitely needs a bit of support.

he's (Joyce) not bad, although I thought he was actually going a bit too fast!. Everybody has been saying he wasn't staying, but we knew he stayed. I think we were done for a little bit of toe the last day, so decided we weren't going to let that happen today. He has been coming out well out of stalls, so the plan was to make the running, kick on two-and-a-half or three furlongs down and see if we could get home. It was nice to get it and is a lovely pot at our local track.

I know we were coming back in trip, but we rode him more positively tonight. He's a good horse and good horses can run over different distances. I reckon he should stay further, a mile and two horse. We are happy with the way that he is improving all the time. He has won on a little bit of give in the ground in Killarney last year. We will be hoping that he will be out somewhere (on the turf). We rolled the dice here tonight - we didn't intend coming here, but I was looking at the entries the other day and I didn't think there was going to be many (runners). It has paid off.

We were a little bit disappointed as he got blocked three times the last day in Galway. . We weren't coming here with him and we were disappointed that he didn't get a clear run, so we decided we would give him a spin on the all-weather here. . He might run on Wednesday, all going well, and then we will give him a little bit of a break because he is a horse for next year. He's a big lad.

He stayed on well in Galway and again the last day in Sligo and had two goes at handicapping so I'd say it made the difference. He was 4lb out of the handicap but we had to take our chances as he is probably crying out for that distance. Wesley gave him a great ride - the instructions were to sit in second or third and to get cover for him as we were riding him to come home. He'd have preferred better ground but this is Ireland, you have to make the best of the ground you have.
