First run of the year you are always nervous. I wasn't worried about the heavy ground going two and a half miles but he was super. The mistake at the second fence woke us all up and he jumped super after that. He's a super jumper and it's the first time he's made a mistake in all the races that I've been training him. He doesn’t mind heavy ground, not going two and a half miles, it's just going three miles would bottom him out a fair amount. I don't know where he will go next. It's always one race at a time and I'll have to talk to a few people before we decide where we go next. The one place he will turn up all things being equal is in March, and what we do between now and March will depend on the horse. We might go to Leopardstown or the King George or we might miss Christmas all together.

It's our first runner in the race, the jockey's first ride and Jessie's first runner. I can't believe it, it was amazing how he jumped and travelled. Robert said he wasn't going to go down the inside, but he did. It's absolutely fantastic, my first runner in a Gold Cup. He was running over two miles, but it was Robert who said he would stay and he did. Thanks to everyone at home, it's all down to the team. I can't believe it, I've got to get a Classic now (on the Flat)!

Robert said they went very steady and he was a bit keen over the first three fences and he kept wanting to go,. He said it was a good thing he made a mistake at the second last first time around as he sort of spat it out after that. He was just brilliant. He was still cantering turning in, as far as I could see, and when he asked him he quickened up. I know he didn’t win very far but he still won and he wasn’t stopping. I have no idea of the plan and I have to talk to Alan and Ann. It makes for a nice decision. It’s my first runner in the Irish Gold Cup and my first winner. It’s very exciting. He looks like a three-mile chaser rather than a two-miler. Seven times he’s been beaten by Douvan, second five times and third twice. If he had won all those races he’d have started favourite for this race. Everyone was doubting that he would stay and I got a bit more worried when the ground got soft, as I think he’s a horse that’s probably better on slightly better ground. He’s in all three races at Cheltenham so we’ll see what happens. He’ll be coming out of the Champion Chase though!. They were all good Grade 1 horses so it was a fair test.

He was very relaxed all the way through the race, and Robert said when he popped the fence after turning into the straight that he was always going to pick up. I’m delighted with him stepping up to two and a half miles, and he got the trip very well. I’ll have to speak with Alan and Ann to see where we go next with him. He has an entry in the Irish Gold Cup or he could go to the Red Mills at Gowran, and he’s in every race at Cheltenham. You would imagine he is likely to go for the Ryanair put we will have to wait and see.

I was delighted with his jumping, it was brilliant and he got a great ride. I wouldn't be opposed to stepping him up in trip in time but for the moment we'll look at the Craddockstown back here over two miles. It's a race I like. I'm looking forward to seeing him over further in time as I think he'll stay. Historically our horses are usually better over fences and with the way he jumps you'd be hopeful with him. He's a big raw horse still and he's still only five. He wouldn't want either extremes of ground. The day Douvan hockeyed him in Gowran it was heavy but he got a lot closer to him at Cheltenham on better ground and I think he's better on better ground.

I'm delighted with him. We've always liked him. I think Dermot Weld's horse made all the four-year-olds in Punchestown look ordinary but we really liked him going up there. He's a real chaser in the making and Jonny gave him a super ride. There is a nice four-year-old only race in Gowran at the end of the month and all being well he'll go for that.
