He disappointed at Leopardstown. I thought the way he travelled there that the one thing he'd do would be gallop to the line. Maybe he didn't see out the three miles but he didn't give us any impression beforehand that it (the trip) would be a problem. It was a 50/50 decision to run here as we were going to wait for the Boyne Hurdle at Navan (that will be his next start . next month). However he came out of Leopardstown so well for a horse that shouldn't have, that we decided to take a chance here and it paid off. Any day he has run well he has hit a flat spot and he has been a good servant. He'll go chasing next year (a point-to-point winner for Colin Bowe). I don't think Barry (Connell) is interested in bringing him to Cheltenham as he has disappointed a few times over there. Anyway the ground is essential to him - he wants it soft.

He's very much a hard horse to get fit. If you remember last year he wasn't impressive at Punchestown before going on to land the Grade 1 hurdle at Navan,. We weren't able to get a grass gallop into him but he worked well on Duninga gallops a couple of weeks ago. Alain said he gave an awful heave turning in but he picked up again. He's very very tough and will come on for that. We'll go for the Hatton's Grace now and we'll see where we stand after that. I'm glad to get him back on track. He'll improve a lot from the run. I'm glad for Barry as he was so disappointing at Cheltenham.

It's nice to get that out of the way - you're always worried about a small field,. He wants a better test of stamina. We didn't want to make to make it all today but once he gets his head in front I don't mind. We'll look at a novice at Cheltenham as he won there last year and it might give him a bit of experience for March. There is also the Barry and Sandra Kelly Hurdle at Navan (December 13th). I think he is more of a stayer. We said we'd start him over two and take it from there. What impressed me most today was his jumping.
