He just barely does enough to get there the whole time, and I thought it was very fine today. He’s tough out and Ronan said he just keeps finding and finding for him. It was a lovely ride by Ronan again even though he was drawn out wide. He was able to get his run the whole way and didn’t get stopped. It’s nice to have a Derby to add to the CV! Last year he needed time between races but he’s a different horse this year. He’s more lively at home and showing he’s more up for the game. We’ll see what the weather does as he needs genuine good ground not firm.

It's a great start to the year for him. I had a line through Nanabad to Curley Bill the other night (at Roscommon) and I had a fair idea that we weren't too far off. He's been working well this year and has been a bit sharper. Last year he was third on his first run back after a couple of years' absence but this year we knew he was a bit buzzier in himself. We probably didn't expect to win but we expected to run very well. He's very ground dependent and likes it on the safe side of quick so today it turned out to be ideal. I'm not sure what is coming up for him, and if there is nothing suitable in Ireland then we'll think about going pot-hunting in England with him.

He was a good horse when Mick Halford had him but unfortunately for him he went wrong. We were lucky to pick him up and I’ve had no problems with him. He’s very laidback and eats and trains away. It’s great to have a Sea The Stars in the yard and to be winning races with him too. He's a stayer and when he got the gap he picked up well. Ronan said the ground was ideal for him today.

it's great to get him (Sea The Lion) back as he had leg trouble a couple of times in his career. The few years off probably did him no harm as he’s a fine, big horse. He's lazy but finds when you ask him and in fairness to Rory (Cleary) he kept finding for him all the way up to the line. He's entered for Leopardstown next Thursday night over 1m5f again and we'll see how his legs are in the morning. The 1m4f Cork Derby is the plan and whether we go to Leopardstown between now and then, we'll decide later.
