we had really been looking forward to today and that is my first Graded win since 2011. It is a long time since we’ve had a horse like this and we’ve had a few false dawns, so it is brilliant to have one like him. I put the tongue-tie back on Ol Man Dingle today — he doesn’t need it but I wasn’t taking any chances. Ricky gave him a lovely ride, the horse has brilliant scope but can be a little brave. During his career prep, we thought an awful lot of him so went for a bumper, but he made a noise and choked. He had never given us that indication beforehand so he had a wind operation but it took him a run or two to get his confidence. He had a bad virus at the end of last season, my yard went down with something around April and May when we had few runners and he has done well to come back from it.

I'm delighted with him and, to be honest, he will improve for the run, so we'd have been happy with a respectable performance coming here. He did very well for us up until last Christmas but I was a little bit disappointed with his run (finishing fourth) at the Dublin Racing Festival afterwards. Even though he ran well, I was a little disappointed and then he had a disappointing run at Navan a month later, but we found a little thing wrong with him. He seems over that little hiccup and hopefully now we can look forward to a nice novice chase campaign with him. I think 2m4f is his trip and while I haven't thought beyond today, for a trainer like me to have a horse to start thinking about running in good races is a real bonus. We will have a more than normal amount of horses in this winter but have a lot of young horses, so we won't be busy with runners until the spring time.

Brian (Caherty, owner) has a big crowd down with him from Armagh and I’m delighted for him. We had him kind of laid out for this race. He hadn’t run for a while as we gave him a little break. You are always a little bit apprehensive if you have done enough or given him too much time off, but I couldn’t have been happier with him coming here. For the first mile I was worried that he was too fresh, but once Ricky got him out he settled and I’m delighted with that performance. He galloped on well and Ricky said if something came to him, he would have gone on again. This was his mid-season target, so we’ll have to reassess things from here.

It's nice to back up his last run. The ground was a bit of an unknown coming here today. I had his previous race and this one mapped out for a quite a while and I was hoping coming here that the ground would be a bit softer. He has been campaigned over further and I just thought two miles on a stiff track, on a bit softer ground, would suit him. The pace was a bit muddling and he seems versatile enough when it comes to trip. . We will see where we go from here. He has been on the go a while and I'll probably give him a small little break now. I could bring him back for a race at Leopardstown over Christmas, there is a novice handicap there that he could run in. We'll let him creep away and see where he brings us. . This is Brian's first horse with me, he is from Newtownhamilton and I'm delighted for him. He is a nice horse to look forward to. It's great for Ricky as well, he is having a great few days.
