After race at Naas Sat, 12th Oct, 2024 (1st)  He keeps making us look good! This was an afterthought, and I’ve just let him freshen up since the Curragh. I said to Austin (Whelan, owner) to let me teach him how to sprint. I’m always moaning that Irish sprinters need practice where the English get them every week so if I didn’t run him then I’m not living up to what I’m asking for. He’s improved from run to run and we should have huge fun with him next year. Take the blinkers off him and he just goes to sleep. He’s a different horse with headgear. Six (furlongs) is grand. He does get further but we won’t fix what is not broken and he can travel next year when the conditions suit. G M Lyons

After race at Curragh Sun, 29th Sep, 2024 (1st)  He's straightforward and I'm happy to have him. He's just improved all season. We said we'd teach him how to sprint all year, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. He just after rocking up and improving all year. I think he's won what he has deserved, a Group 3. He couldn't get near Givemethebeatboys early in the year but, the way he has improved now, if they had to meet in a match he'd have to give him six or seven pounds. It's a credit to the horse. We know he'll get seven - I promised the owner that if he let me do it my way this year that we'd go touring next year, so I'll have to come up with a plan to get out of that one!. He makes you look good, he's so straightforward. You'd think these sprinters are high octane and hard to deal with, but he's so laidback and I think that's the secret to his success. He's handled any ground as well. G M Lyons

After race at Curragh Sun, 15th Sep, 2024 (1st)  My Mate Alfie is a lovely horse but is invisible at home and so much so, that he caught me out a couple of times forgetting to put blinkers on him. He works to the button without blinkers but on the track he just won't do it. He's one of those fantastic horses. He holds an entry in the Ayr Gold Cup, I'm not saying we won't do it as it's a race I want to win, but we've been training this lad with the future in mind. I've kept saying to Austin (Whelan, owner) that we'd travel next year and to let me teach him how to sprint. Ten stone is a lot for a three-year-old and he's done it well; he's just a good horse and keeps turning up. We've trained him with next year in mind and he hasn't let us down. Whether he's a Group 1 sprinter, it's a huge jump from Group 3, but he's definitely going to mature into a better horse. G M Lyons

After race at Curragh Sun, 30th Jun, 2024 (1st)  He's been very consistent all year and the blinkers have transformed him. He gets seven and the first furlong had me worried as they did 15 seconds and I thought it would turn into a sprint and they'd out-do him for speed. At home he's bomb-proof and you can do whatever you like but if you run him here without blinkers he just parks and won't do a thing. The blinkers are the difference between winning and losing. It's great for Austin (Whelan) and all his gang, he's called after his son Alfie. I say they'll take a while to get home tonight. We aimed to have three winners this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I said if we don't win this it's all on the Derby and I don't think that's going to happen!. He's in the Stewards Cup' because it's a £250,000 race. I was fourth in it with a filly many years ago. I was also just chinned in an Ayr Gold Cup, I wanted to be the first Irish trainer to win it. Those are two races that are on my agenda. I don't think he's good enough but we'll see. We're always talking about prize-money. You've got the Wokingham that's worth £150,000 and the Stewards' Cup that is £250,000 so if you are serious about prize-money you have to partake. G M Lyons

After race at Down Royal Fri, 28th Jul, 2023 (1st)  Colin was excellent, he knows the horse from home. He rode him like a champion jockey should ride him. He produced him on the line and the horse will come on immensely maturity-wise. Austin Whelan, who owns the horse, is an Irishman that lives in London. He's a gentleman and we are delighted for him, hopefully it is the first of many for us. He has a few horses here, there and everywhere, but he has a couple with us. His first couple of runs have been good, but he will only get better mentally and he will get great confidence out of that. He wants a little bit of a cut, the ground is beautiful. G M Lyons
