you could see Klassical Dream was probably a third or fourth-season novice the way he jumped because he was very efficient. I had been trying to go over fences with him for the past couple of years but he had little mishaps which would have meant he'd miss half the season. We bided our time and this year he has been 100% and let's hope he stays that way now. He is a Supreme Novice winner and we know he has plenty of stamina so you could go any trip with him. We'll look at Christmas for him as it is nice timing-wise.

Paul was so cool on him. He was out the back and the minute he got a bit of daylight he locked on and I thought wow this is it. It was a masterclass in riding again. I’m a bit worried now as going celebrating with Jo (Coleman, owner) is no simple task! We have good nights. I think we’ll bring him to Auteuil again. We had a good time there last year (finished second) and a weekend in Paris is never a bad thing. Asterion Forlonge ran a cracker and stayed on great at the end. I think hurdling is just too fast for Monkfish (which finished last) and he wants slower ground and bigger fences to maximise jumping.

Paul (Townend) got him lovely and settled and relaxed at the start. Having so few runners in the race was a big help as he was able to settle him on the outside and keep him relaxed. The horse races so much better when he does that. He gets a bit upset but he was very relaxed today in the parade ring, at the start and during the race. He's maturing as he gets older. I'd imagine we'll go the same route next year. I don't think we're going to go over fences, I think it's easier to keep him sounder that way. As you can see he's so busy and every time we've run over fences we've had trouble with him.

It wasn't part of the plan, we were expecting pace in the race but obviously it wasn't there. Paul said the horse took the initiative, jumped out the gate and went. I said to Paul 'you were doing well taking a breather in front' but he said 'it wasn't me it was the horse taking breathers' and when Danny would come he would go on. The horse took over and did everything. He is hard to train, he has huge ability but doesn't always give you confidence when he works. I was only hoping that things would come right today when he came here and it did. That's better than horses that work the house down at home and go to the racecourse and don't do it. He's just the opposite but we're getting to know him a lot more now and we trust him.

unfortunately his owner John Coleman didn't live to see him winning at Cheltenham but Joanne (his wife) had his ashes in her handbag so, anyhow, up he popped in the winners' enclosure! . This win is fantastic for them as he is a family horse but missed a year. David Casey, who rides him at home, kept saying how well he was working and got it right. Patrick was quietly confident all week and I was hoping for his sake he was right. He could stay staying hurdling or go novice chasing — looking at the size of him in the parade ring, anyone would love to ride him down to a fence because he has a really good method of jumping. Staying hurdling is very hard on horses and I'd rather go chasing and if it doesn't work out, he could always come back. Paris (Auteuil) in June might call if we are allowed over there, as he has had such an easy time. James Du Berlais (runner-up) ran a cracker and is one to look forward to going over fences next year as well.

Ruby said he was too settled and was not as pleased as he was in Cheltenham but I thought in Cheltenham he just ran very free. You can’t keep racing like that and I was much happier with today’s performance, albeit the second horse has been to Cheltenham and Aintree and had two very hard races. He’s a fair machine but we were the beneficiary of him (Felix Desjy) having those hard races today. I’m happy to stay over hurdles and try and make a Champion Hurdle horse out of him. I think he could be good enough so we’ll see.

It was a terrific performance and he is good horse. We took a risk running him on goodish firm ground at home, but we thought he had an engine on him. We debated whether to go for the other race (Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle), but when we saw this rain coming we said we would come for this race. The forecast was a big thing once we knew this ground was coming. He was well within his own cruising speed. He looks a real good one on this type of ground. He is a very good horse. We came away from his work at the Curragh last week thinking he was one that was going to take a lot of beating, no matter what he came up against.

Elixir D’ainay ran well in a maiden hurdle in Punchestown. He’s a horse with a lot of ability and a chasing type down the line,. We think he’s a Graded horse, so we’re giving him a go in a Graded race and if he doesn’t win, he can still be a novice next season. Prince D’Aubrelle is a horse with plenty of ability, but he’s fragile and difficult to train.
