I said to her coming in that we'll get rid of that 10lb claim anyhow! She has one more to go. This horse has been an absolute friend to our family. I was a bit critical of myself the last day when we came here to have our first run of the season. He blew the house down afterwards and I went home really critical of myself that I hadn't him quite ready for that sort of a task but we got him right. This horse continues to improve. I had a chat with (handicapper) Garry O'Gorman earlier purely out of curiosity about the conditions of this race because it cut up disappointingly. He said you've got to look at Galway but I just feel that even for the Flat ground there they will water and he rattles off that. I think I'll avoid that temptation. We've got to look at the English Cesarewitch, obviously he'll creep up a bit now. Joey (Sheridan) in Newmarket last year said maybe two is your job. He might have earned an entry into the Irish Cesarewitch if we can creep in. I was a little bit cautious because of how much the race took out of him the last day. Everyone had a good chat and we outlined how to get him back. It took him a while to get back to eating. We took his blood last week and scoped him and we were happy. It was hard to resist running with only six being declared and for Sylvia it was a nice race to ride in. She works full-time in BBA in the shipping department and rides out for Ken Condon every morning. She comes home at the weekend and sleeps and that's allowed!. It's wond

I’ve hit on a good horse. Up to the Curragh run, where the draw beat him, obviously, we always said we had a nice horse, but after that day we came home saying we have a good horse — and we have a good horse now. This has been a lucky horse to start with. You almost don’t want to believe you have your hands on a good horse because it’s so rare we get on them, but I think we have a good one here. Before he won in Roscommon, he was meant to go to Haydock with a view to the English Cesarewitch, but the ground turned up soft and we had to cancel that. Where I might go with him is to the Cesarewitch Trial in Newmarket. Needless to say, several jockeys’ agents were on the phone to me, but Joey Sheridan has been helping me all spring — I’ve been meeting him once a week — so I certainly wasn’t going to (go elsewhere). It was just a misfortune he couldn’t ride him earlier in the season, as he was injured. But I’m delighted to give Joey a winner. It was a nice team effort.

I'm delighted. He has the form in the book. If he was a bigger horse he'd probably start favourite, in our head. He's tall at the withers but a slight horse, so hulking 12 stone around in a hurdle was a worry. That's why I took the 7lb off, but I knew I had a nice lad taking it off. Patrick has been riding out with me most days once Aidan (O'Brien) has finished with him, he's in Ballydoyle most mornings and he's just finished his degree. It's a big thing for me to win that race with a horse first time out over hurdles.

It's unbelievable and I'd have given up a Group 1 winner for my daughter to ride the winner of this race,. We planned it two years ago. Both my children are in the industry, Patrick is in Hong Kong and I miss him a bit today. Sylvia and I planned this. He had shown form early, he was a very weak yearling, but he was a resolute galloper. Obviously the Ladies Derby is an important race. Sylvia works in Kildare, for BBA, so she'd have a lot of friends here. A lot of ducks had to line up in a row today and it's a hard thing to do. This horse has never run a bad race and he's been a very lucky horse and a very good ride. Sylvia rides out every morning for Ken Condon and that's only her third ride this year. She goes to the gym and it's a mammoth thing to do, and she's done it today. I was fortunate to have a winner at Cheltenham in 1995 (Chance Coffey — Coral Cup) but I'm sorry to say to all those national hunt aficionados that it pales into insignificance. That was a family horse as well, owned by my Dad and bred by my brother. This game has been very good to me and owes me nothing. It's a great industry. Funnily enough it's the only time I didn't get excited during a finish. I stood up there and watched it happen very slowly. You don't like to tempt fate but the ducks were in a row today.

Last year was a wet year, that's why he ended up running on soft ground all the time but there was no intention,. I was quietly harbouring hope that the distance and the better ground would bring about improvement but had no proof. He is a smallish, good moving horse so the indications were he would go on it. I told Billy he was a bonny, relaxed horse but gave him no instructions. That's Billy's first winner for me - he actually rode for me over hurdles in the past and we know the Lees for years.
