Neither of my horses [also saddled 11th placed Marinero] would have liked that ground and I said beforehand if we could get into the first six or seven, we'd have run well. Everywhere you looked in the paddock there was quality. I told Jordan (Gainford) to put him to sleep early and to ride a race as it suits you, stay cool. His best weapon is his turn of foot and I told him to keep it up his sleeve for as long as possible. Jordan rode him brilliantly and is going to go a long way. He's a sort of horse that cods you a little bit, you think there's nothing left but there is when you go for him - he has that nice, lazy way as well as two-mile pace. He stays well too and his jumping was superb. He'd want nice ground. We'll take one day at a time but there are plenty of scalps taken today. A lot of the other horses have been to the well and looked good in open point-to-points but when they come back between the rails it can be different. My horse is just as happy here as in the point-to-point, but I never expected him to win.

Danny's mother and father rode winners in those colours for my father. That's Danny's first winner in those colours so I'm delighted. The horse was good. I said to Danny 'take your time on him' as there would probably be a bit of pace on. The last day when he hit the front he looked around so I said to take your time and he certainly did. We were just saying that he's only rated 102 over hurdles. He's 116 today (over fences) and he'll go up to 120's now so 102 over hurdles might be something to think about. He is a chaser, you can see the way he jumps, he's brilliant over a fence but we could come back here at the end of February for a little hurdle race.

It was a bit of a surprise to be honest,. The last day he ran in Tramore the ground was horrible and Andrew said he appreciated the good ground today. He's a fine big horse but he just has his days and we caught him on a good day today. I was half thinking of not running because of the ground but in fairness to Andrew he said 'let him take his chance'. I suppose when the rain comes it's going to be difficult to win in this country. We'll put him in a handicap and see what the handicapper gives him. He can't be too hard on him because that was for horses rated 116 or less over hurdles so he's not going to hammer him. Id say we'll put him in a handicap somewhere in the next two weeks before the rain comes because when it comes it will come. That's the first time those colours are in my name in the winner's enclosure. The first of many hopefully. My father died two years last November. I've no Rubi Light or Sublimity anymore because I haven't got the funds he had!. It would be harder to buy them nowadays, it's getting very difficult. The amount of money they are spending is crazy but sure we'll tip away with what we have. I've only a couple in. The licence is up in February and I probably won't renew it. We had great days with my father but now I've no interest in training for anyone else. I might just renew the licence for the couple that I have or else I have Dermot McLoughlin there local to me and he could take over, I'll see.

I’d say he would have had a few quid on him today and he’d have been in first last night at 12/1!. The boss (his late father) bought him but he never even got to see him running as he got a leg two weeks after buying him.He didn’t have a bad injury but we gave him plenty of time off and he;s a lovely horse. I was sort of kicking myself for telling him to buy him but we knew he had a bit of potential and he’ll make a smashing chaser. We’ll have a look now and see what the handicapper does and if he’s too hard on him we’ll go chasing. In fairness to the young lad (Eamonn O’Connell) he gave him a good ride.
