he reacted to the second flu vaccine that was mandatory and it took a bit of time to get over that. Then he started being slow out of the stalls when he finally came right. We used the hood the last three times and it’s worked a dream. Usually I leave him off this time of the year as he starts to peter off but because he missed the early part of the season I said we’d go to Dundalk and see what happens. I knew the last day that he really liked it, and he was in great form and had no weight today. He was pushed wide the last day and otherwise he could have gone very close. Sometimes he’s better in these better races because they go a nice gallop which suits him.

We were worried about the ground even though he has won on it before but he ran very well the last day when it was heavy ground here. He is so ground-versatile. On heavy ground they come back to him but on good ground they don't. He usually waits until October to win a race, so whatever he does now the pressure is off! . He is in again at Sligo on Tuesday and if he's okay we might go.

I love Listowel and obviously the horse likes Listowel too as it's his second time winning here,. He won this race in 2014 on good to firm, and on heavy today, so it tells you how versatile and genuine he is. He just needed a bit of luck all year and I'm delighted he waited for Listowel to win as it's nicer to win here than anywhere else. That's three races Chris has won on him now.

Hopefully Tipperary will win the All-Ireland now in a fortnight's time to complete the double!. He is a home-bred, and he has been second three times this year, beaten by a short head and a head. He really deserved to win and he is probably unlucky that he hasn't won before today, I'm delighted. Chris knows him well as he rode him a few times before.
