we gave Billyford a little break and has come back a bit fresh and keen but Declan (McDonogh) had him in the right place. He is very ground dependent and has to have good ground. I'd like to run him in the Irish Lincoln but he is unlikely to get his ground and the Winter Derby at Lingfield could be another option.

I've been writing a book about Billyford, and his long layoff due to an ownership dispute, for the last three years. He is a real family horse and is named after my brother, who sadly passed away. He's a lovely horse and we hope to bring him to Kempton soon. I nursed him back to health, am 58 years old and rode him out this morning!. We don't know how good Billyford is at this stage as he has lost three years - no matter how good he is you can't get those years back.

Billyford is back to something like himself, having been off the track for three years. He's been showing a bit of spark at home recently and that was an encouraging run last time out. Hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard on him now and we'll come back here soon. He loved the surface and might go to Kempton over the winter too.
