It couldn't have worked out better, with our own man riding him and he gave him an excellent ride. He jumped from fence to fence. I was just hoping he wouldn't get there too early and luckily enough he didn't,. He wants a proper trip. He's an old fashioned staying horse and he jumped and galloped. This is what you get up everyday for, to have days like this. It doesn't happen too often but when it does it's great. Bad old mornings, horses going bad, things going bad and the job going bad. When you get a boost it rejuvenates the whole lot. He's always been a very good horse but just luck didn't go his way. He was favourite for the Feltham last year, the race Might Bite ran in. I don't know what happened then whether it was ground or trip or whatever. In the race today he jumped out and travelled and was always in there with a good squeak. I was always happy watching it. There was no stage where I was saying 'we're in trouble', fortunately enough, and it all went right. He got there in plenty of time and the further he was going the better, you couldn't be happier with him. He won well for a competitive handicap. He's after going through (the handicap) roof there now and could be anything. It's days like today that you want. That helps you get to the point-to-point and Clonmels of this world. It's day like today that make it all worthwhile.

I was adamant in Kempton that it was just the ground - it was one of those things and I had never seen ground as good at that time of the year. There was nothing wrong with him but today proves it was the ground as he was beaten after three or four fences. Last week (at Leopardstown) it also seemed too good again to take a chance. He always showed he was a decent horse and it was no bad race today. I wouldn’t be too worried about ground as long as it was as yielding as today.

it was very workmanlike - he had plenty done on the flat and schooling and that showed. Before we ever ran him, we had the option of point-to-pointing so he had plenty of schooling in him and lucky enough it showed.

He was a bit disappointing the last day and everything went right today. He took on a very good horse (Bellshill) when he was third at Naas,. He's only a young horse, and hopefully he's learning from his races. He's big enough that he could jump a fence.

He got there nicely but it was hard enough work I suppose on the ground. The only negative you would take was there was a bunch of us there turning in. You always like to see the chaff and the wheat apart a bit. He did it well so you couldn't fault him. It's hard work out there. For a horse first-time out you'd have to be happy. He jumped well and did it well. It's great to get that out of the way.

It was a great performance. It was a proper race and they went a gallop,. The way he picked up and quickened was impressive and there was only one horse galloping at the death. I couldn't be happier with him and he's a lovely horse for the future. It's great to have a good horse for the man (J P McManus) that owns him.
