Permission was given for Shambra (IRE) to wear a hood in the parade ring only.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Bhutan (IRE), ridden by Jonjo O’Neill Jr and trained by Jonjo O’Neill which was held up towards the rear of the field before finishing fourth of six runners, beaten 8 ¼ lengths, having appeared to be tenderly handled in the home straight.
O’Neill Jr was interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to drop the horse about three quarters of the way back in the field and make his challenge in the home straight.
He added that Bhutan (IRE) was hanging badly right-handed throughout the race, a fact which he reported at scales following the race; he was therefore unable to ride out the horse as vigorously as he would have liked to in the home straight.
His explanation was noted.
