The Stewards received a report from W. Fleming , Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that S.B. Kelly , rider of Rockview Emperor , weighed out at 2 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he had notified the trainer that he would carry 1 lb overweight but was unable to lose the required amount of weight to fulfil the commitment. John C. McConnell, trainer, stated that he was aware that the rider would be carrying 1 lb overweight but he had no alternative but to leave him on his charge as there was no other suitable rider. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that S.B. Kelly was in breach of Rule 195(i) and they therefore fined him €150 but allowed him to ride Rockview Emperor.

An extended handicap for four yrs old and upwards (70 = 10st)
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won Any horse rated above 70 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 70 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 70 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
